Disks

Disks, also known as disk harrows, are rows of carbon steel or boron circular blades that rotate in such a way to break up the soil. The rows are often arranged in two or four sections so each part of the grounds gets a few sessions to ensure the soil is broken up, soft, and ready for whatever you have planned next. It also creates a more uniform till for soil that's easy to work with. These blades are often used ahead of other types of equipment, as they can be excellent at sifting through some of the toughest dirt. It's also good at incorporating topsoil into organic material, for a healthier till. Not to mention, you're less likely to clog and ruin other implements by using the disks first.

Cultivators

While disks are a primary tilling tool, cultivators are a secondary tilling tool. It's still designed to pulverize the soil, but it's designed to do so in specific patterns. Because of this, they're ideal for tearing up weeds around crops that have already been planted. They'll remove the unwanted vegetation without ruining the crop. You might already be familiar with smaller cultivator hand tools that you'd use in a garden, but in a field, you'll need something much bigger. If you have lighter soil, you can use these cultivators for primary tillage, though they're generally used for weeding and residue removal.

Plows

Perhaps one of the world's oldest agricultural tools, the plow has come a long way from its roots of being pulled by an animal. Plows still use blades drawn through the soil to cut through dirt, though now they can reach depths of up to 6". Most commonly, they come in the form of multiple reversible plows, which are tractor-mounted and use a hydraulic system to lift and reverse equipment to adjust depth and width.
